There are many young woman out there today who are very aware, very switched on and that are achieving great great things and helping shape the world we live in, hip hop MC and media personality MAYA JUPITER is one of these. Most recently she’s taken on another role as an ambassador for The Pantene Young Woman Of The Year Awards. BIANCA chats to her about her involvement.
Catching Miss Jupiter in the middle of a day long promo shoot for Channel V she seems a little tired yet in high spirits as she explains that life lately has been ‘Crazy, crazy, crazy times!’ Between juggling part time work at Channel V and Triple J she’s managed to squeeze in some time to work on a forthcoming album with her musical project Foreign Heights and time to promo the up coming awards.
“I was asked to be an ambassador for music for it which means I gave them my nominations of who I think should be nominated for the Young Woman Of The Year Award,” she starts. “I’ve just been involved in the campaign of it. It’s been really good. It’s been a lot of fun. So far I haven’t had to do that much,” she laughs. “I’m looking forward to the night when it all goes down ’cause I think it’s important to recognise and acknowledge young woman that are achieving great things in the community”.
Quizzed on why she thinks they choose her to be the ambassador for music? “I don’t know?” she muses. “I do hip-hop workshops as well. I guess they noticed my passion in the area of music, I mean it’s my life in every job whether it’s radio, tv or workshops or making it myself – it’s all music related. It’s just what I love and what I enjoy. It’s where my passion lies. I guess they just saw that and thought I’d be a good ambassador for it.”
Talking with her Jupiter her passion is indeed infectious and is perhaps one of the reasons she’s become a role model for young woman. “I don’t ever think about being a role model because I’m still coming to terms with ‘Oh people know who I am?’” she’s laughs humbly. “It’s not on such a big level that I get recognised on the street which is great because fame was never an interest to me and is still not it’s more just about the music. I’ve always been a person to share my experiences. I’m a firm believer in learning from others so, if that translates in the form of being a role model for young people and young woman can learn from my experiences and my mistakes or what I’ve been through can help them in any way I’m all for it.”
