To know you is to love you…

Well friends, it’s that time of the blog where we all sit around in a big ol’ circle (gawking at each other intrigued & curious yet polite enough not to stare) as we go around the room introducing ourselves, letting each another know a bit about one another. Where are you from? What do you like? Dislike? Do? What do you believe in? What are you most proud of? What do you want to be when you grow up? (ha… ha!) Tell me stuff.

I love hearing from all of you out there in the Universe (thanks y’all for my big phat inbox full of correspondence! It warms my heart to her about your projects, challenges, dreams and more! You inspire me!) Sharing is caring. Don’t be shy to leave some love now :) Communicating and making connections with others can open the doors of possibility. Words can be a window into the soul.

Okay I’ll go first! Here’s a few things you may not know about me.

Growing up I wanted to be… a performer: all-singing, all-dancing. I used to tap dance down the staircase at my folks, I thought I was Ginger Rogers and later after watching The Wiz every day after school, Diana Ross. Then I wanted to be a writer and make children’s books—I used to make picture books about the adventures of my teddy bear and write stories about robots & dinosaurs and robotic dinosaurs complete with illustrations. Next I wanted to be an archaeologist; I would hide treasure in the backyard, make a map to find it, then go back and dig it up again (ha!) In my teens I wanted to be a film director and adored Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino & Sergio Leone (I still do). I was in the top 2% of my film school class. I’ve also thought at points in my life I might of made a good baller (I never throw bricks, don’t believe anything my brother says) or even a homemaker (I love nesting, chirp, chirp).

I’m besotted with Mexico. It is such a beautiful country with an amazing energy. A truly special place dear to my heart. My grandfather was born in Chihuahua. I definitely have a strong connection to the place. Every time I’ve ever been there though, I get super sick. To me Mexico is like poetry. I want to visit the pyramids so bad!

“If you go into Mexico and you get really deep, there are these market places in Guadalajara and Mexico City. There are these two huge market places. When you go in them—they’re not tourist places—they’re almost like a huge flea market. They go underground and go down, down, down, they’re multi-level. When you get all the way to the bottom you’ll find Brujeria, like witchcraft. I went there when I was younger. I went there to get herbs with my family to bring back for my father when he was sick.” ~Efrem Schultz (extract from my project).

I’ve been vegetarian for over ten years. I first became a vegetarian for health reasons, I was pretty sick for a while. When I changed my diet I became better. After suffering with a condition for four years—at one point the doctors had me on twenty-one tablets a day—after having switched to a vegetarian diet, I went back to the doctors and they couldn’t believe it, I was cured, no more pain. My body had healed itself. Over the years I also began to learn about the meat and dairy industry and their inhumane treatment of animals. My bottom line is that for me personally, I cannot eat something that can look me in the eye and smile at me. I support PETA and the RSPCA. My friend John Joseph has a book dropping soon about vegetarian nutrition and health training. Below is a sneak peek of what’s to come:

“Our bodies are made to work, that’s why I don’t take medicines. I assume my body will work.” ~Ian MacKaye.

Sharing stories builds community. What’s yours?
It’s your turn…

PS- Thought you might like to meet my friend Shmoe. He answers questions (and makes rad music), ask him something.

ha, i love the quote from Ian ;)

My name is Gally, and I’m a recent college grad who stays up all night wondering what to do next :3 I’ve got a lot of talent, but a little disease called laziness, and I can’t decide what to do with the rest of my life =__=

Where are you from? — I was born in the U.S. to a crazy Korean mom who only cared if I had eaten yet (it’s an Asian thing.) I currently live in California with my hubby and two kittehs, and it rocks!

What do you like? Cats, rats, all animals really, food, video games, photography, art. I think worms are cute!

Dislike? — Dishonesty, fear-mongering, religious triumphalism.

Do? — I’m currently unemployed b/c I moved right after my last final exam in college to be with my husband. I’m looking for a job, but I’m not sure what to do, so in my free time I try to line up freelance interviews to get a little cash.

What do you believe in? — I need to believe in myself, but sometimes I don’t. I mostly believe in my husband. I believe things will always work out if you work on them. I believe love and will are probably the most important things in this world and can get you through anything. I guess I’m just lacking the will part right now. So I believe I need a kick in the butt!

What are you most proud of? — Being the first in my family with a Bachelor’s degree. Coming a long way in my life when many times I didn’t think I could make it. I’m proud of the friends who’ve stuck by me and helped me make it.

What do you want to be when you grow up? — I’m still totally a kid at heart at times :3 I wanted to be an astronaut when I was little. And an actress. And a musician. And an artist, writer, photographer, vet, etc. I’ve always been a jack-of-all-trades, so I guess that’s why I can’t decide on what to do for my career .__.

We’ll see where this all goes!

    – Gally

    wow bink, super rad story..

i like what Gally said about Love and will being so important..

Me, i wanted to be a pop singer as a kid, and a lawyer and a doctor! but music was my main thing (and still is!)
Oh, and playin cricket for australia!!!!

    Love the pics of Mexico

    Have a great day everyone!

  4. Jowanna says:

Bianca, the Mexican photos are just wonderful!
I too love the Ian MacKaye Quote – something I try to live by!
Where am I from? The older I get, the more I like my grandfathers answer “Im a citizen of the world.”

Like & dislike? Hmm, lets try not to make this too long lol. I tend to like most things – some obviously way more than others to the point of love and some things way less than others to the point of being indifferent. I prefur to see the good / positive rather than the negative. However I definatly dont like mushrooms, hypocrisy or Tony Abbott!

When I was a child, I wanted to be a doctor / surgeon, scientist and ballerina when I grew up amongs other things such as a lawyer, singer and “a sweet shop” lol. Black children were not incouraged to do ballet back then, so the dancing just didnt happen. Singing was not my strong point haha. I was surprised to find science unexciting by the time I reached high school. Law became quite unappealing and we move overseas away from the specific shop I wanted, although I dont know why I wanted to sell sweets (lollies) of all things in the first place! I discovered the animal rights movement when I was 13 which totally put me off of medicine for good although there have been other factors too…

Belief? I believe in questioning everything. I believe lifes a journey and were all on different paths. I believe in accepting differencies, forgiveness, laughter as medicine, positivity, music, dance, education, love and that theres some good in everyone (-:

What are you most proud of? My son (-:

What do I do? Live, love, read, strip, dance, make lots & lots of hula-hoops, laughing all along the way lol.

  5. Bianca says:

Jhonny – Me too! Ian is a clever man :)

Gally – I’m always asking myself, what am I going to do with my life… and then one day I woke up, stop wondering so much and just decided to start doing. I’d spent so much time thinking about what I should do that time just passed me by and I did nothing. I think when deciding on what to do, it’s just good to make a decision, because the thing about decisions is that you can always change them or make another one! My big sister Juanita once told me, “Bink there’s three kinds of people in life: those that make things happen, those that watch things happen & those that wonder what happened?” I then decided I wanted to be one of those people that make things happen… and here we are.

What are your kittens names? I live with three pups Spanky, Fry & Vincent and a kitty Tre a.k.a. Baby Ray.

    *kicking you in the butt*

Get to it lady! You can do it!

Ant – Gally is on the money about love! She’s a smart lady.

I’m so glad music is your thing! Because the music that pours outta your soul is truly a treat to the ears… I have your song name tattooed on my side for life, that’s how much I believe in you! ;)

    Hooooowwwzaaaaaaaat! Go Malinga! he he

Jowanna – I know! The Mexico photos are gorgeous! My heart so yearns to go back. I promised a certain friend a trip back to the motherland one day. It a journey I have to make.

Wow! It sounds like you’ve tried many paths in life, what an adventure. I’m gonna have to get myself one of your hula-hoops some day soon!

I’m so glad you prefer to see the positive rather than he negative too! The more of us there are the better :)

Thank you guys for sharing, such beautiful posts! You’re the best!

That’s a very good way of putting it! You and your sister are absolutely right; I need to make something happen now, I can decide later if I’m happy doing it or want to do something different.

My cats’ names are Raziel and Starbuck ^_^ I’m a huge geek :3 The name Raziel comes from The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games, and Starbuck comes from the show Battlestar Galactica. I think they’re cool names.

    – Gally

  9. Bianca says:

Ruby – Ha! You’re a Scorpio! So am I! Good luck with your PR company dreams, I look forward to seeing them materialize! Where in the world are you traveling? Will you make it to Australia?

Gally – I love Battlestar Galactica, I’m a huge geek too. I love the show Fireflys as well. My friend Brodie-Ann got me into it… I’ve heard there’s another season I haven’t see so I’m psyched.

  10. Gally Lines says:

Firefly is my favorite show of all time :3 BSG is my second favorite ^^

There is one season of Firefly (it got canceled and made into a major motion picture called Serenity), and there are four seasons of BSG, including two movies: Razor, and The Plan! I haven’t gotten to see the Plan yet, I’m excited about it!

  11. Bianca says:

Gally – I was just doing some investigating and have found out there are Firefly comics! How exciting! Two of my favourite things combined, comics & firefly! Yay!
